    San Gimignano e la via Francigena<\/span><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]\r\n

    San Gimignano<\/strong> is a Tuscan town of excellence. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its famous fourteen towers, enclosed by two kilometers of ancient walls,\u00a0<\/span>medieval houses and squares, it give us a perfect view of the medieval period. Thera are also museums that explain the history of this ancient village.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    The Via Francigena<\/strong> lead pilmigrages through San Gimignano<\/strong>\u00a0towards Monteriggioni<\/strong>, Siena<\/strong> and beyond.\u00a0The pilgrimage to Rome, on a visit to the tomb of the apostle Peter, was in the Middle Ages one of the three peregrinationes maiores together with the Holy Land and Santiago de Compostela. For this reason, Italy was continuously traveled by pilgrims from all over Europe. Many stopped in Rome, the others went down along the peninsula to the port of Brindisi and from there they embarked for the Holy Land. Pilgrims coming mainly from the land of the Franks, in the post-Carolingian age began to cross the Alps and enter Italy. For this reasons to ride across the Via Francigena<\/strong> it’s an experience with a special charm still today.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”]

    Volterra<\/span><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]\r\n

    To reach Volterra<\/strong> by bike it’s surely tiring, because of the steep and long street that leads to the top, but the effort will be payed back. Inside the town you will see its narrow cobbled streets that go through the rows of old buildings of stone. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

    Riding\u00a0f<\/span>rom\u00a0<\/span>San Gimignano\u00a0<\/strong>to Volterra<\/strong>, we recommend a path along the ancient Via del Sale<\/strong>, also called via Volterrana<\/strong>. In the Middle Ages was traveled from wagons loaded of salt, the material that determined the great economic development of Volterra<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n

    Along this route you will be in contact with nature, admiring scenic pastel-colored landscapes, dotted with olive trees, cypresses, oaks and ancient houses.<\/span><\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”]

    Val di Merse<\/span><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]\r\n

    Val di Merse<\/strong> area, thanks to the great amount of water of his rivers (mainly the river Merse and Farma, his tributary river), is rich of mills, that, since the Middle Ages, became fundamental for the productin of Siena flour. Today it is almost entirely a natural reserve, perfect for a relaxing holidy close to the nature.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    It includes the territories of the municipalities of Chiusdino<\/strong> (the winner of the best village of Tuscany 2017), Monticiano<\/strong>, Murlo<\/strong> and Sovicille<\/strong>, where, by choosing a specific path, you can admire splendid villages such as:<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n

    • Brenna<\/strong>, that is located\u00a0on the banks of the River Merse, where you can find the coves for bathing and sunbathing<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • Villages of Torri<\/strong> and the Orgia<\/strong> taht are exquisitely preserved examples of medieval castles<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
    • Montieri<\/strong>,\u00a0that is\u00a0<\/span>dominated by large wooded areas transformed into natural parks<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
